Problem Solving-2nd grade
By Linda

Clip to ScrapBook
I do problem solving daily. Usually it is only part of my math time. Sometimes I pull a group to do problems with me while others work in centers. Sometimes I give problems to the whole class. Then we discuss how we solved them and share our different stategies.

It is helpful to give the same problem types for a few times to those students that are having difficulties. You can make problems easier by changing the numbers to make the problem accessible.

TERC has problem solving embedded in its curriculum. Marilyn Burns has some great problems also.

I have gone throught the CGI training and that is where I really learned how to come up with my own problems and began to understand the heirarchy of problem types.
