Phone numbers
By Kathy

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach in a private school and have always given my home phone number to my parents in my introductory letter. I tell them when is most convenient for me to take calls (early evening) and when I would prefer not to get
calls. (Mornings or after 7)

I've felt it was important to keep communication lines open and some parents simply can't call right after school. (Which is the best time for me to take parent calls.) If early evening is better for them, I'm o.k. with that. I have really received very few parent calls over the years and I feel the few times I've been inconvenienced have been worth making

parents feel I am available to them.

If I had small children, I would probably feel very differently. I think you need to make an individual judgment call as to what works best for you and your situation. You certainly have every right to request parents not call you at home.
