A fellow teacher has a great thing called tic-tac-o. After multiplying the first set, tic is crossing out the numbers carried. Tac is crossing out the bottom number one's place number. O is putting the zero in the proper place in the addition problem. After teaching this method to my kids, they picked it up great!
