To answer your question of how a teacher would know how a child was doing if they didn't grade the tests, it seems to me that if you look over their graded work and note what was missed you would get the information needed. I would prefer to grade all the students' work myself--but sometimes reality sets in. If you can get help, why not take it? Sometimes you have to make choices--and I feel my time can be better spent preparing interesting lessons if I have someone willing to do the "grunt work." Just an opinion.
