Before you dive into private school, reaearch what you want out of your teaching job first. As you have read the replies, teaching in a private school cuts your salary by at least 10-12K. In reading the responses you got,| many like me are not in for the actual salary or we would be immediately classified as "low income " for what these religious schools pay. We have children and its a "fringe benefits" that out salaries are cut so low, yet, we do this so our children can have a better education than we did- at an affordable price. Its nice to know you are close to your child and work- plus your schedule | | really does rotate around the child when you work as a teacher. Here are a few pointers after my expeience in having worked at three christian private schools:1) Never allow any school to tell you what church you go to. Freedom of religion. it took years to get it- don't let a pastor who can't fill up his own pews tell you you have to do it for him. I worked at such school and regreted every minute I couldn't go to the church of my choice. 2) Yes, check teacher turnover. 3)How supportive is the administrator?Ask if you can sit at one of the teachers weekly meetings to get a feel of the staff. thats where the rubber meets the road. 4)Ask how much freedom does the teacher have to enhance the curriculum. Many religious curriculums are very cut and dry - lets face it- the "thee" and "thou's" what child of today speaks like that. Can you use a modern version of the Bible? It makes a difference in teaching a memory bible verse. Gook Luck
