Framing Your Thoughts
By Lisa

Clip to ScrapBook
Madeline,
I have used Framing in my classroom of Learning Disabled 6th, 7th and 8th graders for about 5 years. I am not sure how detailed you are with the program but the color coding of Blue (Subject) and Yellow (predicate)
as well as the shapes belonging to each part of speech have really improved the sentence writing for all of my students. We call them Sentence Formulas in my room. Your third graders should be able to write a sentence using a subject predicate and at least two adverbs (How, When, Where, and Why). For an observation, I would post the shapes on the board (Use colored index cards,
draw the shapes in black magic marker, laminate, and use magnetic tape to stick to your board. Start them off with a subject and predicate (Children ran) Start asking Where did the run, why did they run, how did they run, when did they run. See how many different sentences they can develop. Have a lot of "sentence starters" on hand. Keep asking what is the subject, what is the predicate. I could go on and on. email if you have specific questions.
Good Luck!
Lisa
