Something I'd think about trying
By Cathy-Dee

Clip to ScrapBook
Why not talk to your Principal (who should have supported you and put the parent in his place right away) and either tape record or video tape your classroom for the next 2-3 days. Do not purposely go after this girl, but
talk to her as you normally would, ask her similar questions, etc.,

Then call for a meeting with the parents and play the tape for them. Tell them that you expect to be treated respectfully in your classroom and that their child obviously is not doing this. Then tell them that you are more than willing to help their child adjust to being in a new school but that her behaviour will

have to change.

Why I'm suggesting this

.... chances are the girl is not going to change and may get worse
.... your students may start to pick up her behaviours
.... the parents will probably not be on your side ever and may even complain more and perhaps further up the chain of command as well

And I'd like to commend you as well - I don't know if I would have handled it quite as calmly especially with the parent meeting and how the Principal handled things.
