Not One Coal Left Burning
By Flameless

Clip to ScrapBook
I resigned last year. I have always taught in a rural school with the neediest children. The working conditions are much tougher there, and with the average workweek being around 50 hrs. per week, the pay is not worth the
stress. Mandated pretesting takes up so much teaching time, progress reports and other paperwork, teaching afterschool programs for students, afterhours staff development for teachers, general faculty meeting after hours every week, lack of prep time to be a good teacher, accountability for students who are way behind coming into your classroom. Sometimes the leadership at school was
clueless, making it hard on the staff. I seemed to never have time for my own family. If the nation wants quality teachers in those schools they need to pay them more and make the working conditions better.
