Sounds like he took advantage of the moment By Cathy-Dee

He probably thought he could get you in trouble and so figured it was a good way for him to get out of trouble.I would guess that a lot of this comes from home and perhaps he's even heard his parents say they'll go to | the Principal if he says you mistreat him. Of course I could be off-base, but I know families like this and this child sounds like he probably has a background similar to what I've seen. Since your Principal hasn't talked with you and more or less put off the student with his comment I'm guessing he doesn't have a problem with what has happened or at least doesn't feel that you were "yelling" | | at the student or that you "yell" on a regular basis in your classroom. We've all raised our voices from time to time when nothing else seems to work or when we have to get a child's attention fast. Your Principal may be trying to give this student one person he can come to when he has problems since he most likely doesn't have anyone else. Unfortunately it may not work with the student and chances are the student needs things like counseling and intervention which is not always easy to get. Although it can be difficult, I would let this go by the wayside and try to continue working with this student as you have been. It is not easy dealing with students like this and sometimes our frustrations get the better of us when we are dealing with them. I know I've been there a few times myself.
