Grace..I have to agree with your point
By Kay

Clip to ScrapBook
I was the poster who disagreed with putting uncertified teachers in classrooms. But, your point is well taken. I teach at the elementary level. But, I do agree with bringing professionals in a field into the classroom.
I do think they need to be trained in classroom managment, lesson planning, teaching strategies, learning styles, etc.. before they take on the responsibity of students and curriculum. I believe a "real" chemist is a super choice for a chemistry teacher. But, there is alot of difference from the lab to the classroom and they should be prepared.

The Teach for America at the elementary

level are responbible for all content areas, young children, and a serious state accountability system.

oh, well..Until we can fill our classrooms with trained teachers, this is a good option. At least these Teach for America's are book smart.
