I have had the experience of going both up and down. Down is a bit harder because you are used to almost-sixth grade children when you leave fifth, and are getting end-of-the year second graders. I would try to observe in
a second grade classroom during the months of May and June to familiarize myself with the age. That being said, you will have the advantage of knowing where the children will be going curriculum-wise in a couple of years, so you can teach with that eye to the future. Third graders are willing, trusting, and don't have that "edge" that older kids can start to have by fifth grade. They possess
a growing independence, and they can do many of the same tasks as older kids, you just have to adjust your directions. I really am enjoying third grade after five years in second. I think regardless of where you choose to wind up as your career progresses, it is always advantageous to change grades and get a different perspective. Good luck!
