EIP By Lisa

Eip stands for Early Intervention Program. It is sort of what SIA used to be if you are familiar with that. Basically the EIP teacher teaches groups of children who are weak in reading. You would have guided reading groups| in classes labeled EIP classes. Our EIP teacher usually goes to five classes a day for 45 minutes each. Reading Recovery teachers usually teach between 6 and 8 children a day for thirty minutes each. It is total individual instruction for first graders who are struggling with reading. I live in Georgia. I am going to pursue my degree from Georgia | | Southwestern State University. I still won't be able to do Reading Recovery until I get an add-on to my certificate just for RR. There is a school in Atlanta that offers this... I think it is called Georgia State College. If they select me for the position, the school system will send me to school to get that . I just think that it would be so wonderful to be able to teach either small groups in EIP rooms or one-on-one for RR! I wouldn't have to deal with all that extra work that comes along with having a homeroom. I really do love my job, but my problem is that my body doesn't handle stress very well, so I would like a job where I could teach children but not have all of that added responsiblity.
