self-contained By pjm

I am self-contained K - 4....and I've heard that self-contained is also going out however it doesn't necessarily mean my district will do that. Resourse hours have been changed (at least in my state)so that you can keep| kids in resrouce longer without having to call the self-cntained....It used to be that any child needing more than 2.5 would automatically come to me not so anymore. However, the thinking in my district is that the kids that are more severe will still come to me (I.e. the kids needing more than 2.5) and the others will go to resource. I'm wondering how closely they'll stick to that practice | | not that I am nearing my limit...I have 14 and so only room for one more. It will be interesting. I do think that this trend of elimiting self-contained may not be in the best interest of some students. The kids are very aware of what they can not do and that the other kids are "smarter" than they are....all I see happening is more battering of their already fragile self-esteem....it seems like half of my job when I get a new student is convincing the child that yes, they can do this, yes, they are smart, yes they can learn....
