My heart goes out to you. I am a grizzled veteran but have on my primary team a wonderful first grade teacher who was in just your shoes last year. She cried every day. But I have her former students in my second grade and I hear glowing reports about her from those kids and thier parents. One thing she did last year was meet with me about what I expected of incoming second grade students and we also met at the beginning of this year to see if her former first graders met my standards or what they could have used more or less of. Obviously I have tried to give positive feedback. We also have pretty clear | | standards that we work towards. We had a do nothing principal last year who was no help at all. So my suggestion is to forge good relationships with others on your primary grade team and enlist thier feedback and support. My poor buddy was subjected to some nasty teaching colleagues, and still is. I think they are threatened by her youthful energy and innovative teaching style. Also if you don't already do so - keep a portfolio of student work so you can see GROWTH at year's end. It is most encouraging to you,the parents and the children! And by the way ~ I bet you are doing just a WONDERFUL job!
