No, I don't think you're giving too much at all. I have a 4th grader (I teach 5th grade) and that's about how much he gets. I give about the same amount with my 5th graders. They have math and spelling 3 nights a week - and always reading (400 minutes a month). They sometimes have time to finish it in class. They also have any unfinished classwork as homework, so they know to stay on-task to avoid that (plus it gives the slower ones an opportunity to catch-up without being punished by it being due right then). Of course, they always have other subjects (vocabulary, etc...) to study as needed.
