My schedule By Amanda K.

Here is my daily schedule (although my Fridays are different and allow more time for art or other projects, since my language arts series doesn't require much on Fridays, and we don't do reading groups this day). I work| in California at a school where standards-based teaching is highly emphasized (if it doesn't relate to a standard, we can't teach it unless it's rare). 8:15-9:00 Houghton Mifflin Math, including Calendar activities 9:00-10:00 Houghton Mifflin Language Arts 10-10:15 Recess 10:15-11:15 Guided Reading Groups/Centers I have four groups, and I see each group every day Mon through Thurs. | | Each group session lasts 15 minutes. The other kids have time to do activities on the computers, at a back table with a parent helper, or another activity that I might have them do independently at their desks or elsewhere in the room. My kids in AR also use part of this time for AR reading.11:25-12:15 Lunch 12:15-12:30 or longer, depending on their mood and mine - SSR 12:30-12:45 Spelling 12:45-1:30 Writing 1:30-1:45 Recess 1:45-2:30 This is my catch-all time. I use this time to do anything I didn't get to in the reading series, usually grammar or vocabulary activities. If there is nothing left to do, then this is my time to pick an activity for us to do, perhaps math centers or a math game, science or social studies, or art and music. In first grade in my district, these activities can only come after we've hit the "core" subjects of language arts, math, and writing. I like to leave this time open as much as I can for the other subjects.
