Clip to ScrapBook
I do something similar to teach6; but I have the tallest boy and girl and the shortest boy and girl come up to the board. I draw a men's hat over the tall boy's head (Dad), a lady's hat over the tall girl (Mom), a bow over
the little girl's head (Sister), and a baseball cap over the little guy's (Brother) we keep the kids in th at order and then say Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother. We chant it and then mix them up and have students put them back in the right order. Once they have the order down, we call out the parts of a division problem with those same children representing Divide, Multiply, Subtract, Bring
down. We chant that for a while too and I explain sometimes the dog is in the house and sometimes he's not. Someone then comes up to play Rover for the Remainder!
The kids have fun doing this and the visual representation of the kids in a row helps them remember the steps. The teacher next door has the kids remember Dead Monkeys Smell Bad and that works for them!
