I first got into special ed. because I was working my way through college in residential homes. I landed a job shortly after finishing my degree in an unrelated field in an adult workshop setting where I was an instructor
and I used several of the above mentioned jobs and others with that population. I am currently in an elementary life skills class and do these jobs once or twice per month, they can be adjusted to add academics to also. The students love them, and I call this time prevocational time. They work on cooperation, learn work ethics - many times I find they want to only do a few items and
give up and I have taught them in a way piece work. I sometimes chart what the last person did and see if the new person is up for the challenge of beating that number. It is a nice activity and definitly skills they will use in their future - also many of the skills we work on I have found are also skills these children are tested on in their alternative assessment. I don't know if this was what you were looking for but you did say their levels were kindergarten. Take care.
