Clip to ScrapBook
I have seen these kids and I know how it can make you crazy. As you know children work best with routines so try to think of ways to make him do the things he needs to by making it part of a routine. He should put his backpack
in the same place at home all the time. When he does homework or takes anything out of his backpack he must return it to the same place when done. Have his mom ask him "what do you need to bring to school today?" to help remind him to get his backpack. Do the same types of things at school. Use a quick reminder and address it to the whole class, "It's math time, who can tell us what
materials we will need?" Give him a responsible buddy to help him remember to put his materials away or check to make sure he has the materials he needs. If you keep using the routines hopefully it will begin to become automatic for him, but it may take a while. Make sure to praise him when he takes care of things on his own. Tell mom not to bring his things to school when he forgets them. This is sending the wrong message. He has to live with the consequences of his irresponsibility or he will learn that everyone will just take care of him. Good luck!
