Writing Conferences
By Is this 4-Blocks?

I sounds like you are using the 4-Blocks literacy building in your classroom. Will they be publishing this piece? If so, and this is the first writing conference, I would help them see whether or not they have a story/idea
with a beginning, middle and end. I would work on this first, then sentence structure and mechanics, then ask them to circle the words they feel they spelled wrong. Have them sound out and decode, giving assistance to get the correct spelling. If this is the first conference, I would encourage them (and you) to mark up the papers (in red pen) as you worked through the above with them.

Teachers do things differently and I don't know how many drafts you are allowing, but the final writing piece should be well written and be ready to read before the group or hung up for when the parents come in. If you are doing four blocks, check out their website on teachers.net. Happy Teaching!
