What wroked for me

I know what you mean!! Our portfolios are due Feb. 28th. My second graders had never written in paragraphs either. What worked for us was the sandwich or hamburger model. Top bun = topic sentence lettuce, tomato, meat are the "juicy" details bottom bun is the conclusion. There is a graphic organizer I can get you as well. For some reason this really worked with my kids. We spent 2 mini-lessons talking about main ideas and another couple of days on details and they got it!!
