Preparing
By Former NYS Grade 4 Teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
Although we know that these tests are not accurate measures of what our students can do, we are judged on the outcomes. To prepare my students, I would give them a practice ELA and grade it to see where strengths and weaknesses were. Then we spent time talking about each section and looked at strategies for answering all the different parts (graphic organizers for notetaking, organizing thoughts, etc.) Then I gave another practice assessment, and usually there was improvement. Keep in mind that I began this in early January, and held optional after school sessions to prepare, which all my students attended. I disagree with taking away from class time for test prep. Good luck.
