conferences and workshops
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I go to two out-of-school conferences or workshops a year. Our school district is really BIG on having teachers attend these, and as soon as the fliers arrive my principal asks which one I'd like to go to, or he recommends
one he would like me to attend.

I think that the AIMS workshops are really outstanding. They send really seasoned professionals, often full-time teachers themselves, some National Board Certified, to provide hands-on activities for math and science. I just attended an AIMS workshop a couple of weeks ago on division. We got a lot of fun ideas and materials to take back to school

with us.

Also check to find out if there's a state conference where you live. I teach in South Carolina and will attend the South Carolina State Reading Conference next month at Myrtle Beach. In October I attended the Carolinas Math Conference in Charlotte, NC. It was a wonderful experience and I brought back a lot of activities for the classroom.

Perhaps you could go online and look for AIMS workshops and when they might be in your area. Maybe you will even find out about a math or reading conference in your state.

Good luck!
