I really feel for you and especially your daughter. I had a very similar experience happen to me as a 4th grader many years ago (mid '70's). Mr. Moore was my first "man" teacher and I was very intimidated by him (he was
a former Marine). He often has us do "multiplication and division drills" at the blackboard. I could do the work at my seat, but I absolutely froze at the blackboard. His way of dealing with it was to bark sarcastic insults like, "Moss. . What's wrong with you?!?!?" which caused the other kids to laugh. I remember that I had always loved school up to that point, but as a result of his
constant badgering, I just wanted to stay home and I "played sick" a lot. Anyway. .. now I'm a successful 16 yr. veteran elementary teacher and if I ever saw old Mr. Moore I'd certainly give him a piece of my mind! Ha! This teacher's behavior is totally unacceptable and she is insensitive if she doesn't realize how it's affecting your child's self-esteem. You're doing the right thing in seeking a conference---hope your able to work out some kind of solution. I think we'd all be interested in hearing how it goes----post an message and give us the scoop! Good luck!!
