Clip to ScrapBook
I do not have research, but would also love to know what the research says. I know the "innovative" way to sit is your scenerio one, or just anything that is not the old-fashioned rows. Since before Thanksgiving I have
had my students in "pods", two airplane desks facing each other and one on the end, so that six children can see and work with one another. This is great for group work, but every subject does not require group work. Our district has a RIGID spelling program (Johnny Can Spell) that we have to do DAILY, and the children who had to turn their heads 90 degrees or more to see me were at a
real disadvantage. Taking my children's personalities and learning styles into consideration, I have gone back to the rows, and the classroom climate is so much better now. We have times for group work, but they do it on the floor in small groups. Their desks are for independent or partner work, and the rows are working for us.
I would love to know what is working for others.
