For future reference, it may be helpful to let your class mom know that you would like _____ for a Christmas (or whatever occasion) gift instead of individual personal gifts from the students. The class mom would then ask for the donations and it would not seem tacky. I have a friend who is a class mom this year and they got her son's teacher a nice Geo Safari globe.
