Investigations
By hudsboy

Clip to ScrapBook
our district adopted this about 4 years ago and we also have Scott Foresman math. we were told only to use math Investigations...I teach 4th grade and there are 11 investigations, no way do we have time to cover all of those
esp before our big tests in the spring...many of us have gone back to using the SF book, and doing investigations for further indepth understanding of concepts..we (my teammates & I) have found that kids coming up to our grade level that have only had the Investigation program are very poorly prepared in knowing basic facts and computation skills. sure, they'll discover it somewhere
along the way...but they are not efficient at all in how they solve problems..the other think I find is that the kids that have had this program for a couple of years have really no definitive problem solving strategies, no one has ever really taught them very specific strategies to solve complex problems... they do have a better understanding of number sense but.... I feel this program needs lots of supplementing although there are some at my building that love it, they are in the minority!
