You were right By Heather

I think that you should have told her that you are there as the teacher, and you requested them to be quiet. She shouldn't have made a remark that they are only 5th graders, especailly when you are trying to keep control| of things by asking them to quiet down. If she said this in front of the students,I am sure that you felt as big as the period at the end of my sentence. I think that you handled it well, and at least you didn't say things that could insult her as a person, or run complaining to the principal. I probably would have said, "Look, I am trying to keep the kids under control by asking them | | to not talk, especially when they have an assignment to do. I understand that they are only 5th graders, but they are old enough to do what I have asked them to do. I am sorry if the regular teacher allows them to constantly talk, but when I am here, I would prefer them to be quiet. That isn't a huge impossible request. If they can not follow my rules when I am here, I will have no other choice than to take further discipline actions."Hopefully, she would get the hint that you are the teacher there for the day, and what you say goes ( to a reasonable extent). If she still has a problem or makes comments talk to an administrator. I am certain that they will never call you again over that, but anything is possilbe. Maybe you should go explain it to the person who calls the subs in and ask for her advice. Just tell her that you are sort of confused as to what you shouls have said to her. Like I said, you could have said alot worse, like shut the h*! up, you crazy woman, I am the boss here! Ha Ha Ha< even though you may have benn thinking worse things!!!!! I think that you was kind but basically told her that you wasn't putting up with it. Please excuse my typing errors. Hope this helped, at least to make you feel better.
