I guess that's where I am coming from too, "what's the hurry?" I don't think I have ever taught to some predetermined idea of what a child at any grade was like. Small group work, choice, and appropriate expectations help meet the needs of all the students in the classroom, instead of focusing on the easy ones, that ones that fit a preconceived mold.
