conversation hearts

I've had them actually glue the hearts to a large construction paper heart on which they have written a short story, inserting the hearts at the appropriate spots and adding quotation marks as needed. It was a nice mechanics lesson as well as a fun activity. We were sure to have plenty of extra hearts for eating!
