Boys
By ML

Clip to ScrapBook
Grace,
I really respect you for looking for ways to help the boys in your classroom. I would suggest to you an informative book that has really helped me both as a parent and an educator. Michael Gurian has written several
excellent books including THE GOOD SON. This book covers all the ages and stages boys generally go through from infancy to adulthood. This book discusses how classrooms tend to be set up more verbally than spatially. In other words, girls tend to excell in verbal skills whereas boys tend to NEED to move physically. It also discusses how boys tend to act out their distress more
than girls. This of course leads to further discipline problems. The book did mention that boys need "boy-friendly" classrooms where teachers are educated on the differences between male and female brain systems. I recommend this book for anyone who truly wants to understand boys.
