Clip to ScrapBook
I've had a great deal of success having the students draw a name of one of their classmates from the class and have them write or say one nice thing about that person, i.e Johnny scored a great goal in gym today, Joanie used
her manners when she asked to go to the washroom, etc., it worked well for me!
I have also used hearts to talk about acts and words of kindness and their importance. Have a nice big construction paper heart and ask the kids if they know what happens to a person's heart when their feelings are hurt. Then ask for /use some "safe" examples of things said that can hurt our feelings.
ALWAYS remind the kids to not use people's names. As things are said, rip a piece of the heart and at the end, when a number of examples have been given, ask how difficult it will be to tape the heart together again. It can be done BUT the scars will remain. This lesson has a great impact on kids, and adults as well!
