fire hazard!

I know you might think this is terrible and somewhat sneaky, but this is what I did: I told my kids that books on the floor was fire hazard and that if the fire dept. ever came in for a surprise inspection (which they sometimes did), we would not pass the inspection. The class took this violation very seriously--now whenever I see a mess on the floor, I simply say, "I hope we don't have a fire inspection today!" I know there is some truth to the materials being on the floor, but I don't know if we would really fail a fire inspection for it!
