My student teacher turned into me!!!
By Connie

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi,

This is just a word of encouragement for all of you in student teaching. I take student teachers only once in a while because I like to help them out and spend a lot of time with them and not "abuse" them. This
takes a lot of my time.

My very favorite student teacher had a very rough first week when she took over full time. She burst into tears on Friday and said "I became the kind of teacher I never wanted to be!!!" I think she became a little crabby and a bit cynical like us veterans, but she quickly regained control on her own terms.

My very worst student teacher became evil when I

left the room and I had many complaints about her. That is one reason I hesitate to take students. Please all remember that we still have to field the parental complaints if things don't go well and we are ultimately responsible for the children. It is hard for me to let go. This comment is just to give you a perspective of a cooperating teacher.

When I first began teaching, cooperating teachers were paid about $100 (that's about $500 in today's dollars). Now, we don't even directly receive course vouchers. So, please remember that we have no motivation except to help the next generation! But, I still enjoy doing so!

Good luck to all of you and I hope you all have jobs before you graduate!
Connie
