    I am currently teaching the same topic to my 4th graders. I decided to focus in on the ENVIRONMENT,
    HISTORY, and
    HERITAGE of each region. I spent roughly 1-2 weeks in each area. Map work, note-taking, text reading, literature, and webquests did the trick.
    As a culminating activity for the midwest,I had groups of 4 look back through their notes and illustrate two key pieces of information. We then strung all of the artwork together to make a Midwest"film strip".
