grading papers By Christy

A coworker and I were just talking about this today. I just recently started having my students check work for me to save time. My students don't actually "grade" the paper though. They just circle any wrong answers and| write how many missed at the top. They don't know what the other person's grade is. I love it because it's less time consuming. The only problem I have with it is some of my students are not very careful graders. I had a parent return their child's paper with a mistake on it that had been counted as correct. So the parent thinks I'm careless or dumb, I guess. The only thing I could | | say was that I didn't check the paper, which doesn't make me look much better. I haven't decided whether I want to continue doing this or not. I'm glad to see this being discussed here. I am in favor of it because it saves time and also because it allows the students to get more immediate feedback. Because if I had to grade it myself they wouldn't get it back for several days. I am really interested in seeing some other opinions.
