We were told last year that we should not be doing this. Even though there was a "big to do" about this in another state and the parent took the teacher to court (and lost!) we were told that in our system, we would no longer be allowed to do this. In a way I understand because you have the confidentiality thing with sped, but my students "announce" I got an F on this anyway. I guess that is taking the decision away from them when we have others grade though. In short to answer your question, I don't think it is illegal but we were told not to, so I don't.
