It can't hurt to call.

It's slow here (in PA), too, and college kids aren't allowed to sub here. I've never called before but I'm getting anxious. I called a subfinder that I've only worked for a couple times and let her know that I'm looking for days. She said she had nothing, but called me 2 hours later with a position for tomorrow and Friday. I know it was a position she wouldn't have considered me for if I hadn't called her (it's pretty far from my house). It can't hurt to have your name fresh in their minds.
