I have to say I'm on the other side of this coin. I don't think students should be retained. Obviously having a lot that need to be retained might mean you have to take a good hard look at the curriculum. That curriculum| isn't right for the child - not the child isn't right for the curriculum. Now this involves a commitment and a fight that might have to be taken up with administration - but my goodness, our students are worth it. What six year olds are expected to know and master is becoming ludicrous. We are teaching kids at a young age that school stinks and its a place of stress and failure. I'm | | sorry, but I don't think parents have enough time with their children as it is. Expecting them to help you teach inappropriate content is not fair. They should be playing with their children, reading to them, talking with them, baking with them etc. Not drilling facts and figures into their heads every night. I certainly don't mean to offend anyone. Its about time we start looking at the curriculum and how we can help kids succeed instead of measuring them and using the information to separate those who will fail.
