Spelling magnets
By Lixz

Clip to ScrapBook
Su,
I do use a list of words for the spelling magnet center. I go over the words with the whole class and then reveiw them with the students that are in that center. (usually 2 or 3 kids) I always try to pair up a strong
reader with a low reader
so I am assured that one of the students will be confident of the words. Also I have the rule...
"ask 3 before me" since I am generally doing guided readin at this time, and they generally find someone that knows the word.
When I first introduced this center at the beginning of the year,I did use words with pictures. Reading flashcards with pictures worked
well for this center.
I purchased about 7 sets of alphabet magnets at the dollar store. I put them in front of my desk.
Although the spelling magnet center is suppose to be "Make it and Break It"....make the owrd and then break it up to make another one, I have enough letters so that they just continue making all the words and then break them up when all the words are made. As they are making the word, they have a worksheet to write down each word that they creating from the word list. The kids love this center.
I hope this helps.....good luck!!!
