science and his ego
By CD

Clip to ScrapBook
First of all, fourth graders do NOT have the attention span to sit through this man's 80 minute lecture. Do you and this guy switch classes every day, or do your students go to him just a few times a week? Goodness!!
I
would explain to him about their reading abilities. Get out your gradebook if necessary. Talk to him about ways you have had to adapt your teaching to the kids' learning styles.
It sounds like they would definitely benefit from hands-on learning in this subject area - experiments, web learning, field trips. I cannot imagine teaching science as a lecture the whole time anyway. I know
it is halfway through the year, but he needs to make some changes. See how it goes when you meet with him individually. If he isn't willing to take your word for it that changes need to be made, get your principal involved pronto. Good luck!
