Clip to ScrapBook
It's never too late to lay down the law! When you go into the classroom next don't smile or talk to the students. Don't be ugly about it. Just point to the board where you have written what you want them to do. After
everyone is there and hopefully are waiting for your instructions you will in a firm and without a hint of a smile explain that from that point on they will address you as Ms. H.... .Anyone calling you by any other name will write a letter to the Principal explaining their innapropriate manner in addressing a teacher and why it is wrong. They will sign it and date it and it must pass your
examination. Make them do it again if it isn't what you want. If they address you as anything but Ms. H... again then a copy of the letter will be sent home for the family to sign and return the next day. If it isn't returned then you will call the family when you take the student and the letter to the principal. Very important to let the Principal know ahead of time that this will happen and what you want from the visit. I only had to take one student to the office and that was all that took with that student. The letter usually puts a stop with most. Is there a particular student that is the ringleader of this? That one should be your target for the first letter! Your example of what will happen if the name continues to be used. Oh by the way, the one that had to go to the office? His grandmother came to the class mad at me, he really told her some stories, and she sat in the back of the room until out lunch meeting watching me like a hawk. She was so cute in her little hat and white gloves and I think she was all of 4 feet 6 inches tall! Her grandson was so sure of himself that by the time I took the kids to lunch she was dragging him from my room by the ear. She took him to the principal office! She came back an hour later and apologized for his behavior and he never gave me a problem again! I know it is hard to be firm in another teacher's room but you can do it and if you go too far then the cooperating teacher will let you know! Good luck! My idea may not work for you but I wanted to share it with you!
