what I used to do
By Cathy-Dee

Clip to ScrapBook
I have never used this with students, but when I was in school way back, this is what I'd do to help me remember the spelling.

For There - I kept it in my head here and there since the word here was part of the word there. I also knew I could use the word here instead of word there in the sentence. Look over here, look over there. Here is a dog, there is a dog.

For they're - I just tried the word with the are following it. If it made sense to say they are, then I knew it was the contraction.

And for all others I used their.

I think for students in grade 3 it helps for them to have a lot of repetition. If you do morning messages add those words every day and review them.
