giving a 60%
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I, too, was told to give students at least a 60% on grades, even if their average was only a 20%. I gave it some thought, and I could understand the superintendent's logic, to a degree. Both grades are failing. I have put grades of 45 on a report card, and I admit that I don't feel very good about doing that. I can also understand the view that a grade should be written as it is. I think that students should be allowed to realize that their performance needs to be improved greatly if they aren't anywhere close to passing. On the other hand, if a child is doing that poorly, I try to investigate and remediate. I only gave out two F's this marking period, and that was to children whom I thought weren't trying.
