I wrote it, too!

The above poster mentions working until age 52. I am 52, but I can't quit yet. I got off to a late start, and I also moved to a different state, so I have to continue working. Meanwhile, I will confess that I am stressed
to the breaking point, and I get up every day asking myself how much longer I can go on. I have to stick with this for a few more years. The kids are hellish to work with. They are rude, defiant, and disrespectful. I have been teaching for five years, and each year seems to be the same with the attitudes and behavior.

If I were young like you, I would definitely explore other avenues.

I would get a certificate as a media specialist. I think that job is a lot easier, since you don't have the responsibility of teaching and managing kids the way classroom teachers do. I'd go back and get a PhD (I have a Master's) and try for a college teaching job.

Now I am just going through the grind each day, playing cheerleader and dog sled team leader who tows a classroom full of lazy and irresponsible kids.
