Sedimentary and Metamorphic Rock activity
By Amy

Clip to ScrapBook
Use crayon shavings as sediments. The kids have all different colors (or close to it) so they can keep an eye on their sediments. Have them erode and deposit their shavings to a piece of cardboard. Then put another piece
of cardboard on top of the pile of shavings and have the kids come over and apply pressure. Then I have the kids walk on the covered shavings. Then we overturned a desk and had four kids get on it to apply even more pressure.. then they stomped really hard on the shavings. Finally it is time to look at your sedimentary rock.

Now to change it into a metamorphic rock cover the crayon

rock with wax paper and apply heat and pressure from an iron (only a second or two) and then you have a metamorphic rock.
Hope this is clear enough to follow.
