timed facts
By sandy

Clip to ScrapBook
With my fourth graders, I find that it varies greatly from child to child, but right now I am allowing 5 min. per timed test. (We use Saxon, by the way, although this is our first year.) I can often expect that with addition
or subtraction most of them can get done in 3 minutes. Some take four and some I could give 20 and they wouldn't be done! Multiplication started off slowly but they're getting it too. Most are done in 5 minutes now. For some reason division seems to go slower. We haven't been doing these long, but most of my kids aren't breaking the 70% in 5 min. mark. We'll get there. It doesn't
bother me too much, as long as they are making personal gains and improving each time. Some kids will never be speedy, even though they're extremely accurate. I don't count this for a grade, I just use it as a skill development tool.
