On the holidays, I told my teacher friends about this book and they said, "Oh we all have that book, we got it in teachers' college", but for me it was a great find! So you may have heard of it already. It's Elementary and Middle School Mathematics by John Van de Walle. I just finished fractions and decimals and found it useful.

I also have another book of interesting activities/math stories that I love but can't afford to buy which is Historical Connections in Mathematics (2 volumes) by L & W Reimer. It's more for grades 4-8. I like it because it tells you about famous historical mathematicians and what they did, so say when you are teaching Pythagoras' Theorem (I know not grade 4) you know who he was and why we care about his Theorem.
