101 Days
By Darci

Clip to ScrapBook
My class celebrates this every year and they love it! Good luck to you!
I go in the night before and decorate my door with a drawing of Cruella holding one pup with the words, "Can you help me find the other 100?" and
when they enter the room, they immediately see that I have hidden (on the walls) 100 paper Dalmations. (I got a couple from a coloring book and then xeroxed them until I had 101). We always count them together, but one of the other teachers (I am going to do this this year) hids "spots that have been numbered from 1 to 101" and the students are given a 100 chart.....they have to walk
around the room and color in the corresponding numbers to the spots they find.......when done, they bring it to her and she gives them a prize. The only problem is that she could not tell if the students were actually matching numbers or just coloring in......so, I suggested that she tell them that she has 3 numbered spots and when they have found and colored all except 3, to come see her for the last numbers and their prize. We are both going to try this.
I also have them string 10 Cheerioes and 1 Fruit Loop (I used to use 10 Fruit Loops and a Life Saver, but it was costly) to make 101 necklaces.
Last year another teacher shared this with me and the kids in my class loved it. Buy Cheerios, bowls, spoons, sugar, milk and paper plates. Ask students if they think that 101 Cheerios is a lot (They usually say YES!) Then, give each child a plate and pour approximately 101 Cheerios on the plate......Have each student count to 101 (We counted out loud together and dropped them in the bowl.) When you get to 101, let them see that 101 Cheerios is not much.......Add more Cheerios, milk, sugar, and enjoy!!!!!!!
Give each student a 100s board and Cheerios (or the like).....ask questions like "place a Cheerio on the number that comes after 10"......keep asking and let them find the numbers you call. Or, play number bingo......Let them eat when they are done.
One of our teachers has each child bring a posterboard with the number 100 (I would do 101) on the poster. They are to decorate it somehow, but must use 101 items to do so. She had a student glue 100 pennies on the large numbers, 100 stars to make the shape of the numbers, etc. She hung them all up and we voted on the most unique, the prettiest, the most colorful, etc....
I have my students fold a paper in half......On the top half they draw what they looked like when they were 101 minutes old. On the bottom half, they draw what they think they will look like when they are 101 years old. (Be prepared, even though I generally get very old people with canes and beards, I have gotten a few graves.....Kids! Ha!)
Need any more? Hope this helps.......Darci
