The Cay
By Deb

Clip to ScrapBook
This book takes place during WWII, but not in Europe. A small passenger ship, in the Caribbean, I think, accidentally gets bombed, and a young boy and blind, black man are the only survivors. They make their way to a tropical island to await rescue. It's a great story of survival and overcoming prejudice / stereotypes. The old man's dialect takes some practice for reading aloud, but the students really enjoy it. Sorry I can't recall the author's name.
